Bringing The (Little) House of Fairy Tales to St Saviour’s School.
As the world changes none of us know what tomorrow’s going to look like and the skills our children will need.
In addition to the 3 R’s, there’s no doubt that creative skills are and will be critical – eg. art and music as much as performance and thinking creatively. )Take a moment to watch this short video of a head master saying that the UK education system is killing creativity in children if you need convincing: http://bit.ly/kenandcreativity)
Our school does a wonderful job of giving the children an excellent grounding in the arts and music with specialist and very talented teachers who provide endless and amazing initiatives like expressive arts week.
Introducing
Last summer at Camp Bestival and the Thames Festival, parents Nick Corston and Jacky Schroer came across the House of Fairy Tales – a group of artists led by the Young British Artist Gavin Turk and his wife Deborah Curtis, whose child-centred project draws on an extensive team of performers, educationalists and dreamers to create a magical parallel world where learning is play and play is directed learning.
With the support of Ms Woodford, the teachers and support staff, PTA and the House of Fairy Tales themselves we're planning to hold a smaller DIY version, in OUR school, for all OUR children on Friday 30th September 2011.
It will not be just another arts and crafts day. The key to its success as an event that truly captures the imagination of the children will be the engagement and inspiration of all of our school community .
Everyone can help
Bringing the enthusiasm and talents of parents and teachers together this will be an event that everyone will be able to help with, in one or more of the following areas:
- Creatives - to help develop really engaging activities (need good ideas and an open mind)
- Leaders - to lead activities on the day (you won’t be backward coming forward)
- Production - to help prepare resources for the activities in advance (sticking and gluing)
- Helpers – to help activity leaders on the day (anyone can do this)
- Designers – to help design task sheets and handouts (need to know fonts from Photoshop)
- Printers – to get us some cheap printing
- Sponsors – access to companies interested in sponsoring the event
- Donations – we don’t want to charge for it but do need to raise some money
So if the answer to any of the above is ‘yes’ or even just ‘maybe’ then please go to http://bit.ly/sslhofyes and fill in the form there.
We know that with the other school commitments, day jobs and life generally, there are many demands on people’s time and money and totally understand if you can’t help.
